Awaits Judges’ Decision to Advance in International Hard Rock Battle of the Bands

With its 40th Anniversary, Hard Rock International is giving local bands like Sarasota’s Seven Years Past a chance to open for

Bon Jovi at Hard Rock Calling 2011 in London’s Hyde Park, June 24-26

TAMPA, Fla. – Sarasota’s Seven Years Past (www.sevenyearspast.moonfruit.com) won the Hard Rock Battle of the Bands Tampa area final on Mar. 3 at the new Hard Rock Cafe Tampa. The band now anxiously waits until early next month when judges will select 10 groups from four international regions for the next phase – an online public voting round at www.hardrock.com. The four bands with the most votes will win a chance to open this June for Bon Jovi at Hard Rock Calling 2011 – one of the world’s most iconic music festivals – at London’s Hyde Park.

In celebration of Hard Rock’s 40th anniversary, “Hard Rock Calling” returns to Hyde Park – one of the United Kingdom’s finest outdoor music events. In addition to Bon Jovi, this year’s headliners June 24-26 include music legends Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks, along with specials guests.

As part of their victory, Seven Years Past will play later this year in a paying gig at the state-of-the-art Hard Rock Cafe Tampa. Each band member also received $200, and can look forward to enjoying a complimentary stay at the beautiful Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The two runner-ups, (Lovestruck Robot (www.lovestruckrobot.com) and Mr. Bella, (www.mrbella.com) also won future paying gigs at the Hard Rock Cafe Tampa and a free Seminole Hard Rock Hotel stay for each band member. The judges of the Tampa Bay area Hard Rock Battle of the Bands final were 98Rock’s Jesse Kage, Lauren, and Killabrew.

“We’re proud to be representing Tampa in the Hard Rock International Battle of the Bands.  All of our fellow contestants really brought their ‘A’ game and we couldn’t be happier to have earned the victory,” commented Bret Calltharp, Seven Years Past bass guitarist.

“Our fans really showed up for us and I think that helped us come out on top.  Everyone at Hard Rock has been great to work with throughout the contest, and we’re excited to see if we will be advancing.” In addition to Calltharp, Seven Years Past band members are: Lisa Larkin, vocals, Mark Medeiros, guitar, and Brett Jones on drums.

Starting on March 21, a judging panel will review video footage of each finalist’s top-rated original song, as well as their cover of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi.  That panel consists of acclaimed industry experts, including Little Steven Van Zandt of the legendary E Street Band, Pete Wentz of hit rock group Fall Out Boy, Live Nation Vice President of Promotions Toby Leighton-Pope, Hard Rock International Chief Marketing Officer John Galloway and Absolute Radio Director of Marketing Clare Baker, will help narrow down the choices from across the globe.

They’ll choose 10 winners from four regions (40 total) who’ll then be judged on www.hardrock.com from April 12-25.  Anyone can log on and vote for their favorite band.  All four subsequent winners, to be announced on April 28, will be flown to London, treated like rock stars, and given a spot on the bill at Hard Rock Calling 2011.

But only one band will open on the main stage for Bon Jovi, and that big winner be determined once-and-for-all by a final worldwide fan vote on www.hardrock.com from April 29-May 5. The runners-up will rock out on one of the many different stages at Hard Rock Calling.
